SKIN AGING, A MANDATORY PASSAGE?

Did you know that there are 3 types of skin aging, and that the signs will be different depending on the age groups of your clients? We are indeed talking about genetic aging, hormonal aging and environmental aging.

Genetic aging

As the name suggests, it is inevitable and due to genetics. You can’t prevent it, but it is still possible to adopt behaviors that will prevent it from speeding up, starting with adequate protection from UV rays. It is also important to try to avoid stress as much as possible, as well as avoid or limit tobacco and alcohol, which have the effect of shortening the chromosomes, scientific studies support, which will cause premature aging.

Hormonal aging

This type of aging is mainly seen in women due to menopause, that stage of life that is simply unavoidable.

Environmental aging

This last type of aging is for its part due to various external factors such as the sun, pollution and free radicals, which can affect the genetic capital of cells by weakening them.

How is skin aging observed?

You will mainly observe the appearance of wrinkles, loss of firmness and elasticity, thinning of the skin, dryness, dehydration and hyper or hypo pigmentation. But the signs will be different depending on the age and skin quality of everyone.

The 20s are a crucial stage for aging skin. It is therefore your duty, as a skin care professional to properly advise and educate your young clients about the importance of taking good care of their skin to avoid reducing the genetic capital of cells. Encourage them to properly cleanse and hydrate their skin enough every day. The goal of your twenties: keep the skin balanced, in addition to having the best possible hydration intake.

In your 30s, the skin begins to lose its radiance, fine lines set in, the complexion is duller and uneven, and there is a breakdown of collagen and elastin. The first thing to recommend to your clients is to use an eye contour cream because the skin is thinner and more fragile in this area, and more easily dehydrated. Then advise them to add a serum with hyaluronic acid to their skincare routine to keep as much hydration as possible in their skin. Then, offer them a moisturizer that will help retain their youthfulness while keeping cell cohesion at its maximum.

In your 40s, the natural shedding of the skin is less optimal. We notice a loss of tone, the appearance of pigmentary spots, a more textured complexion and skin with more visible and enlarged pores. Crow’s feet, nasolabial folds and frown lines also appear during the 40s. A little more pronounced dryness will also be observed on the skin. It is therefore important to advise your clients in their 40s to get into the habit of exfoliating their facial skin once a week so that they can get rid of all the dead skin cells, since the skin is not able to do it by itself. With a thicker stratum corneum, cell renewal is not possible, and the skin will therefore not be able to regenerate properly. By exfoliating, the skin will regain its radiance and a more even complexion. In terms of products, opt for a slightly richer eye contour creams as well as a slightly more nourishing cream. In the salon, you should start stronger anti-ageing facial treatments.

And in your 50s, with the onset of menopause, the body stops producing estrogen, the hormone that makes it possible, among other things, to produce collagen. As soon as the body stops producing collagen, it goes into glycation process where the collagen fibers break down, resulting in loss of density. Menopause also reduces the amount of sebum, resulting in drier skin for almost the majority of clients. With a thickening stratum corneum, we will notice pigmentary spots, discoloration, deep well-established expression lines and wrinkles, in addition to thinning of the lips. To properly advise your clients so that they age beautifully, you will offer more effective facial treatments such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion and treatments to stimulate cell renewal. We also suggest moisturizing and nourishing products, with richer and moisturizing creams and above all, we suggest religiously exfoliating each week at home.
